Emerald Pool

Krabi · Nature & Waterfalls · Rank

Tucked within Krabi’s protected forestlands, the Emerald Pool—locally known as Sa Morakot—feels like a secret carefully kept by the jungle. The moment you step onto the raised wooden boardwalk that leads through dense green canopy, the everyday world recedes. Birdsong and the rustle of leaves set the scene; after a short, fragrant walk you arrive at water so vividly green it looks as if someone has painted it into the landscape.

Why it captivates

The pool’s clarity and intense green-turquoise color are its defining features. Sunlight filtering through the trees and the mineral content of the limestone bed combine to produce a jewel-like hue that shimmers across shallow terraces and deeper pockets. Unlike a roar of cascading falls, the Emerald Pool offers quiet: an intimate natural basin where the water is still enough to mirror the foliage above. Nearby, the small cascades and stepping pools create a series of gentle natural features that reward exploration with refreshing dips.

The approach: a short jungle journey

Access to the pool is part of the experience. A well-maintained path and boardwalk cut through Thung Teao Forest Natural Park (adjacent to the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve), offering a cool, shaded walk that typically takes 10–30 minutes from the park entrance depending on your pace. Along the way you’ll pass stands of towering trees, ferns, and occasional patches of sunlight that spotlight the forest floor. Interpretive signs and simple viewing platforms make the trail both educational and immersive—perfect for nature lovers and photographers.

Swimming and etiquette

Swimming is allowed in designated areas of the Emerald Pool. The water feels remarkably clear and clean, and the shallow margins make it accessible for most visitors.
